Expert Sports Injury Physiotherapy in Birmingham
We provide assessment and rehabilitation for recreational exercisers, active individuals and people recovering from sports-related injuries. You do not need to be an elite athlete: if being active matters to you, getting back to it safely matters to us.
Our physiotherapists assess not only the injury itself but also the factors that may have contributed to it, including strength, flexibility, movement patterns, training demands and biomechanics. Understanding why an injury happened is the key to stopping it coming back.
Rehabilitation is progressive and sport-specific. We start by settling pain and restoring movement, then build strength, conditioning and the specific skills your sport demands, using our therapy gym to bridge the gap between treatment and full training.
The aim is to help you return to your chosen activity safely and confidently. Sports massage and, for suitable tendon problems, shockwave therapy are also available at HOLOS as part of your recovery.
Alongside your injury, we assess
- Strength
- Flexibility
- Movement patterns
- Training demands
- Biomechanics

Understanding Sports Injuries
The injuries we see most, and how we get you back in action.
01
Muscle Strains and Tears
Muscle injuries often happen during sprinting, kicking, jumping or sudden changes of direction, or when a muscle is tired or not conditioned for the load placed on it.
Rehabilitation restores length and strength in the injured muscle and gradually reintroduces speed and power, so you return without the injury recurring.
How we help
- Graded strengthening
- Flexibility and mobility work
- Speed and power reintroduced gradually
02
Ligament Injuries and Joint Sprains
Ankle and knee sprains are among the most common sports injuries. Ligament injuries can leave a joint feeling weak, unstable or unreliable.
We focus on restoring movement, strength, balance and control around the joint, then practise the movements your sport demands before you return.
How we help
- Balance and control training
- Strength around the joint
- Sport-specific practice
03
Running Injuries
Many running injuries build up gradually, often after an increase in mileage, speed or hill work, a change in footwear or a return after time off.
Our return-to-running programmes combine strength work, load management and a graded running plan to get you back on the road or trail.
How we help
- Load and training advice
- Strength for runners
- Structured return-to-running plan
04
Tendon Problems
Tendon pain in the Achilles, knee, hip, elbow or shoulder is common in active people and usually relates to how much and how quickly the tendon has been loaded.
Carefully progressed tendon loading is the foundation of treatment. Where suitable, shockwave therapy may also be considered after assessment.
How we help
- Progressive tendon loading
- Training modification
- Shockwave therapy where suitable
05
Rehabilitation After Sports Surgery
After surgery such as a ligament reconstruction, a well-structured rehabilitation programme is essential for a safe return to sport.
We guide you through each stage, from early recovery to sport-specific training, using our therapy gym to rebuild strength and confidence.
How we help
- Staged rehabilitation
- Therapy gym progression
- Return-to-sport testing and practice
